[Mac OS X TeX] find/change in TeXShop 1.15

Folks,

I can't seem to find, select, or change just one left ( or one right 
], the editor insists on selecting an entire parenthetical phrase.

I have tried unchecking Parens Matching in the Preferences menu but 
that does not seem to help.

Any thoughts?
