14.1.2 [set|get][catalog|info|names|trailer]
These functions complement the corresponding pdf backend token lists
dealing with metadata.
The value types are strings and they are written to the pdf file directly
after the token registers
set at the TEX end are written.

Hm, this means that your code before is the correct way to modify names.
