[luatex] LuaTeX seems to ignore \escapechar

Hello,

in TeX Live 2010, the line

luatex '\escapechar=-1 \immediate\write16{\meaning\box}\end'

results in

being output. tex, pdftex and xetex correctly print "box" without escape char. This breaks e.g. the ifpdf package (and possible many more package which rely on \escapechar and \meaning). Is this behavior intentional or a bug?
