I'm afraid that unicode-math is designed primarily to replace the
entire math system with Unicode. I'll attempt to make it play better
with legacy TeX maths in the future, but for now you need to select a
Unicode font for the maths you need to use. E.g.,
\setmathfont{xits-math.otf}
