For new documents, I highly recommend to use a Unicode font, without luinputenc,
but with luaotfload, as Patrick suggested.

You'll have the same problems in LuaTeX if you use luainputenc. So, there is no
benefit here unless you use a Unicode font and get rid of luainputenc.
