Ah, thanks. I've written to Vafa to fix the problem. I'll make the 
necessary adjustments in expl3 to avoid a similar issue recurring in 
the future.

You can work around the problem by writing

    \ifxetex\let\directlua\undefined\fi

before \usepackage{fontspec}.
