Hello Jim,

I did a minor fix on the quotation, as I was looking on the net
whether there are any commonly used translation I found that you made
some truncation of word blind. I also did a few other changes (please
check them, notably for the English).

BTW, I found difficult translating correctly the quotation by Twain,
it seems that it did not yet cross the Atlantic up to France, and so I
started a discussion on FCTT (see
https://groups.google.com/g/fr.comp.text.tex/c/qkp9dUh07rk). In a
nutshell I am not sure that what Twain pointed at is what is called
conservatism today in the context of the US politics. Further, given
the significant differences between the French poltiical history, and
the US one, translating to conservatisme in French could also raise
difficulty.
My feeling was what Twain pointed at is more what is currently called
indentitarism, not conservatism. Am I wrong ?

Twain is a great writer, I do not wish to betray what he wrote,
neither changing the quotation to another quotation (Seneca or
Voltaire are good candidates …). Maybe in the same university where
you teach some litterature teacher with a good knowledge of Twain
could help me.

  Vincent.
