[l2h] Problem with Images

I got the *very* latest netpbm, which is version 9.14, although my pnmcrop
reports only version: "Netpbm 1 March 1994". As for pstoimg, the only
version on my system is from latex2html, version 2K1.beta. 

I have in the meantime repeated the whole configure, make, and make test
process in a directory the name of which does not contain a .(dot) , and the
problem remains the same. The configure went smoothly except that I had to
enter the path to the file gs_init.ps manually. Being a Linux newbie i might
have messed up on that, though i don't really think so. On my system, the
directory containing that file is /usr/share/ghostscript/5.10
I tried twice, once with just that path, the other time with
.:/usr/share/ghostscript/5.10
