[l2h] newbie \newcommand question

I have a macro:

\newcommand{\sbrkt}[1]{\left[ #1 \right]}

that's supposed to convert

	\sbrkt{x} ---> [x]

but latex2html converts it to 

	---> []x

How do you define commands with arguments?
