Which version of netpbm do you have? What does the following command
print?

pnmcrop -h

It should include the -l -r -t -b options. If not, you must get
netpbm-1mar1994p1.tar.gz (the "p1" is important!!), which should fix the
problem. It is *not* normal that the resulting GIFs have black lines at
the left/bottom.
