Thanks for researching all that, Pavel.

    And I am talking about the original TrueType fonts. For example the
    letter H used to be just one part, no overlapping, no
    self-intersection. Now it is composed of three parts and they
    overlap.

Sounds like most likely it is the TTF fonts that should be changed.
Evidently this is the place to report to SIL:

    What looks strange to me is that the problems are "at some zoom
    levels and some font sizes". I can't imagine reason for this.

I can imagine the bug is triggered depending on how many "output" pixels
the renderer has available with which to render the outline. E.g., if
it's few enough, the whole loop is within a single pixel and the problem
disappears. Fortunately, we don't need to figure that out :). -k
