[fptex] problem with txfonts and \dots

I am now very puzzled.  I use the Xemacs included with the TeXLive/fpTeX 
distribution.  By default, it is installed with the AUCTeX package.  
When I latex-ed the above file (with Command-->LaTeX), then displayed  
it using Command-->View DVI, windvi did not show the dots, nor in the 
hardcopy print.  But then I ran Command-->PDFLaTeX, and voila! the dots 
are there in the pdf.  Not only that, now when I run Command-->ViewDVI, 
they show up.  Problem disappeared!  I am not crazy.  I did see the 
problem.  But I can not reproduce it now.

The only thing I can guess is that the AUCTeX package is doing something 
silently and retaining some memory.  Maybe windvi is also. I can't find 
any explanation for it in the AUCTeX doc.
