[fptex] problem with txfonts and \dots

Hello,

I am using fpTeX/TeXLive  full download on  Dec 7, 2003 on Windows 2000 
fully up-to-date.

Here is a test case showing unexpected behaviour with txfonts:

\documentclass{book}
\usepackage{txfonts}
\begin{document}
abc\footnote{a \dots b; $a \dots b$}
\end{document}

The footnote appears like this:  a...b;a   b

In other words, \dots in the math environment in the footnote just 
prints whitespace!

Is this a bug in txfonts?  How can I work around it?
