[fptex] Cannot preview marvosym fonts using windvi

I'm using fptex 0.6, and AFPL Ghostscript 7.20.

I downloaded and installed the marvosym package from 

  ftp://ftp.dante.de/pub/fptex/0.6

I can generate valid glyphs for the marvosym font using pdftex, or
generating a dvi file and then using dvips.  I cannot, however preview
the marvosym fonts using windvi.

I've tried manually generating the pk fonts, using gsftopk, but
gsftopk is complaining with messages, such as the one below.
