If it isn't obvious, a `TPM' is an XML file (hopefully RDF-conformant)
which lists the files contained in a given package. It breaks them up
into source, documentation and runtime, gives sizes, and includes
summary documentation (drawn from the Williams catalogue)
TPMs are at the heart of the TeX Live installation procedure, and will
be increasingly used in fpTeX and TeXLive. We will add, for instance,
dependency information, and virtual packages. The aim is that you will
ask for package "Russian", and it will cover all the individual
packages a typical Russian user might want.
Anyone who wants to build utilities (like uninstalls, or sanity
checkers) based on TPMs is *very* welcome.
