Hirata-san,

Please go to
https://sources.voidlinux.org/cantarell-fonts-0.201/
and obtain
cantarell-fonts-0.201.tar.xz.

Expand it and goto the directory
cantarell-fonts-0.201/prebuilt

In the directory make a tex file:

% test.tex
\nopagenumbers\font\xxx="[Cantarell-VF.otf]" at 10pt
\xxx Write gibberish here.\bye

Then run
xetex -no-pdf test.tex
xdvipdfmx test.xdv

The error message will be:

test.xdv -> test.pdf
[1
xdvipdfmx:fatal: invalid offsize data

No output PDF file written.

Maybe the present xdvipdfmx can't handle variable fonts,
but Karl says the message is not appropriate.

Best,
Akira
