[dviout] canvas background colour

Hi,

I have changed the system wide default background colour to a warmer
tone than blinding white and most applications obey that configuration
or offer means to manually change the default canvas (fore-) and
background colour.  As I'm lost between the wealth of dviout options,
could anybody please point me to the background colour setting (hoping
that this exists)?
