Powerdot problem.

I am happy to report that, following the advice of Thomas Schneider, I
installed the 2024 version of TexLive, and the procedure ran without
problem. (There were a few points that I got confused about, but it was
not too hard to work out what to do. E.g., when doing

> zcat < install-tl-unx.tar.gz | tar xf -

I (carelessly) left off the final "-" and got an error. But I eventually
figured out what I'd done wrong.

On my system just doing

> tar xvf install-tl-unx.tar.gz

works fine. I guess that on some systems the "zcat" dodge is necessary.

The actual installation process, i.e.

> perl ./install-tl --no-interaction

took a gigantic amount of time (10, 12 hours?) but fortunately I had
set it going late in the evening, and I just went to bed, leaving it
running. In the morning it was all done.

The ps2pdf command then ran without warnings or errors.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my cri de coeur.

cheers,

Rolf Turner
