pgf-PeriodicTable: option de seems not to work

Dear Hugo,

thank You for this impressive package!

While

\documentclass[landscape]{scrartcl}
\usepackage{pgf-PeriodicTable}
\begin{document}
\pgfPT
\end{document}

works as exspected, the de-option

\documentclass[landscape]{scrartcl}
\usepackage[de]{pgf-PeriodicTable}
\begin{document}
\pgfPT
\end{document}

produces an error:

! Argument of \UTFviii at three@octets at combine has an extra }.
<inserted text>

Any idea?
