About the compilation: it was so fast because I had also unpacked the converted-to-pdf images, so those were ready. Without unpacking those the compilation still seems to have worked, but it took just a few seconds longer. In any case, it produces a pdf with working cross-references, as downloadable at the link I provided earlier.

Here, too, is the gzipped and tarred working directory (with the images placed properly in the 'images/' subdirectory, etc.):

This is for future reference, in case anyone else wants to try compiling it. What you do is unpack that directory, move in, and (assuming you have TeX Live) run 'pdflatex dgn.tex' a couple of times.
