Linebreak in verbatim with lualatex but not with pdflatex

Dear all

when I compile the following document

  \documentclass{article}
  \begin{document}
  \begin{verbatim}
  |-------------------------------------------------------------------|
  \end{verbatim}
  \end{document}


with latex (dvi) or pdflatex (pdf), I receive the expected single line.

When I compile with lualatex, the line is broken before the final
vertical bar:

  |-------------------------------------------------------------------
  |

(When there is a space before that bar, the line is not broken.)

This happens with lualatex "Version 1.10.0 (TeX Live 2019/Debian)" and
"LuaHBTeX, Version 1.12.0 (TeX Live 2020/W32TeX)".


Is this expected/documented?
