Jerry -- This would appear to be a LaTeX query, about which I therefore know nothing, but what happens if instead of writing :

> {name={board of adjustment},
> description={Is an administrative agency for hearing and deciding zoning
> appeals}}

you instead write :

> \newglossaryentry{BOA}
> {name={Board of Adjustment},
> description={Is an administrative agency for hearing and deciding zoning
> appeals}}
