Indeed. Although I don't use mediawiki, elsewhere I've read that LaTeXML
will be used with mediawiki in the future. LaTeXML works rather well, and
it does not depend on a TeX installation.

It is possible to have more than one TeX installation on a given platform.
One needs to manage things like paths and variables. Therefore I am skeptical
about this quoted material.
