Since Reinhard Kotucha has compiled .dvi and .ps from your source,
we have been able to run xdvi (and Evince) ourselves.

-debug 4000, see man xdvi: 4000 = 2048+1024+512+256+128+32, 
all kpathsearch messages except on stat calls. kpathsearch problems?
32 is for PostScript rendering, but I don't see anything from 
xdvi -debug 32 in xdvi -debug 4000 -- an xdvi bug?
I don't see anything about misplacing text. I agree with Reinhard 
that a minimal (non-)working example would have been most helpful.
