[texhax] Uppercase Titles with titlesec

Hello everybody

I know that by using \usepackage[uppercase]{titlesec} I get uppercase 
titles, however I need further tune-up like this:

\titleformat{\chapter}[display]
{\centering\bfseries\large}
{\Huge\thechapter}
{0pt}
{}
[]

This apparently invalidates the [uppercase] option; so I tried adding 
\MakeUppercase to {\centering\bfseries\large} but I get the following 
error message:

! Incomplete \iffalse; all text was ignored after line 105.
<inserted text>
\fi

Someone knows how to solve this dilemma?
