The word "Latin" in "Latin Modern" is ***not*** related to ISO-Latin-1
(aka ISO-8859-1) encoding.

These fonts are called "Latin Modern" because they are supposed to
support ***all*** Latin scripts: Eastern European and African scripts,
Vietnamese... ISO-8895 supports only 256 glyphs but each Latin Modern
font provides abt. 1200 glyphs.

  Reinhard

Microsoft isn't the answer. Microsoft is the question, and the answer is NO.
