dear phil,

    As a non-mathematician, that made no sense at all to me (it would
    seem at first sight that <name of environment> is "theorem" in
    the examples you cite), so I used TeXdoc as suggested.  That
    told me :

sigh.  chalk it up to too much brain
rot from transcribing a panel discussion
from the last tug meeting (there was no
publicly-accessible video, so this is
the only record).  the really important
thing is that the full documentation --
which is reasonably clear, i believe --
is in the manual.  manuals are written
to be read, but they so rarely are ...

anyhow, thanks for the clarification.
