[texhax] problems with tabu 2.8

Hi All,

I'm hoping some of the tex experts here could help solve problems with the tabu package (v 2.8).

1. I'm using the "at" package (http://ctan.org/pkg/at) to define abbreviations for some commands.
I've defined @bt for \begin{tabu}, and @et for \end{tabu}.
However, even this simple code fails:

@bt {l l}
a & b    \\
@et

and returns the error message:
! Missing $ inserted.
<inserted text> 
                $

It is working fine with tabu v. 1.4

2. I'm trying to colour rows with an alternating colour using \taburowcolors, but it doesn't work.
Here is a minimal code:

\taburowcolors [1] 2 {white .. gray}
\begin{tabu} {l l}
a & b    \\
c & d    \\
\end{tabu}

but the output is just black letters on a white background. Also, tabu 2.8 also doesn't work colortab.


Any ideas how to solve these two issues?.
