[texhax] Superscripting the Bibliography Reference paper numbers

Hi,
does any one have a suggestion on how to prepare the bibliography sequential
reference numbers as superscript numbers?
I have been trying to use to following command as below, but it works
properly only up to the reference number 9 i.e. up to \bibitem number 9.


\makeatletter
\renewcommand\@biblabel[1]{${^#1}$}
\renewcommand{\bibnumfmt}[1]{${^#1}$}
\makeatother

begin{thebibliography}{29}

\bibitem{xyz}

\end{thebibliography}
