[texhax] customizing caption

Works for me:

\documentclass{book}
\usepackage[bahasam]{babel}
\renewcommand\figurename{Rajah}
\begin{document}
\begin{figure}[htb!]
Cuba lagi
\caption{Boleh?}
\end{figure}
\end{document}

Try issuing the \renewcommand *after* \begin{document}
