Hi Kyle,

yes go with LaTeX you will not regret it. It makes writing dissertations
much more fun.
Plus after that you have one more skill for your CV.

Concerning the style. I guess schools which does not supply style files,
could not be very strict on there style. Just how could they request you
to use a style without any rules ?!

More important is the way of work between you and your supervisor. If he
is a MS Word fanboy, he might ask (force) you to supply him a MS Word
file for his corrections ("because I can do this fanncy annotations with
it").

Also administration could create problems if they request simply silly
and wrong formats. If thats happen, you have proverbial rape the
TeX-system to force it to do things wrong.

Thus, I guess to get the format right might be easy. But make sure you
will not meet a bonehead during your proof-reading or submission.
