[texhax] Centering within an arbitrary vbox

The tabular environment is probably th simplest solution:

\line{\hfill\vbox{%
  \tabcolsep=0pt % to keep things flush
  \begin{tabular}{c}
    Chapter\\8
  \end{tabular}
}}
