Well ---as I said in a previous mail, you're using pdfTeX 1.20, and I  
have version 1.40.9 (and I'm sure a different version of epstopdf.sty)  
so I can't reproduce your problem.

I never recommended pstricks, because, unfortunately and to my shame,  
I don't know pstricks.

Only what I already told you ---to covert in Illustrator the  
characters to outlines.
