Yes; that's exactly what I was thinking. I bet DEK would have done this in
the original TeX if only CPU cycles weren't so expensive back then. It does
seem like a very logical extension of what we currently have.
You'd think this would make an interesting thesis topic for someone. Well,
I think that, anyway :-)
