I would suggest looking at the mhchem package. It has a lot of "chemical
sense" and handles this type of thing easily:

\usepackage[version=3]{mhchem}
\begin{document}
\ce{HCCH ->[\ce{$\dot{\mathrm{O}}$H}] $\dot{\mathrm{C}}$CH(OH)
