There's your problem (see, e.g., Lamport's book): you should use 
something like 

{Bernardi, Fernando X. and Cherry, William X. and Shaik, Sason X. and 
Epiotis, Nicolaos X.},

otherwise BibTeX thinks there's just one very long author name.
