[texhax] latex default output font

I am relatively new to TeX so I am not aware of many of its features
yet.
I would like to use a sans serif font for the whole document instead of
roman. As this would be the choice for the whole text in the document,
the command 

\sftext{...}

doesn't seem to me to be the best solution...

Is there a way to set the default font to sans serif?
