Yeah, that solution works nicely too :)

You just need  to put the whole string of commands into the cell of a
table and it works fine (text in adjacent cells appears in the correct
place).

There is a slight difference in the two working solutions so far in the
way the table cell border affects the placement of the image. Nothing
serious.
