It takes more than just a set of fonts to typeset equations.
You need to use some sort of equation editor / typesetter.
I think it'd be best to have someone who understands them provide you
with nice resolution-independent .eps or .pdf files for you to place,
but....
If you're running Mac OS X, you can use Gerben Weirda's distribution
which is free:
http://www.rna.nl/tex.html
You'll probably want a graphical front-end such as:
TeXshop - http://www.uoregon.edu/~koch/texshop/texshop.html
LyX - http://www.lyx.org
A more general, Mac-oriented site is here:
http://www.esm.psu.edu/mac-tex
If you're still using Mac OS 9, the only free distribution is one for
MPW (if you don't know what that is, it's not suited to you), so you
would want to get cmactex, oztex (both of those are shareware) or
Textures from Blue Sky TeX Systems.
