[texhax] dvips error message

    I couldn't find any environment variable in texmf.cnf
    related to dvips string space. What can I do to be
    able to compile the file?

Short of recompiling dvips, maybe process the dvi file in smaller
chunks, using the -p and -l options to control which pages are processed.

If that fails, perhaps try chopping up the dvi file itself, which can be
done with dviselect.
