You make a paragraph with a line with nothing visible on it.

In LaTeX:

	Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
	Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

	\mbox{}

	Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
	Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

In plain TeX, change \mbox{} to \hbox{}.

Plain TeX and LaTeX both define \null to be \hbox{}: you'll often see
\null used in macro packages.  However, \null is \emph{not} part of
the defined user interface for LaTeX, so it should not be used in
documents.
