[texhax] Inner and outer "margin"

Is there a robust way of setting a length to the distance from the page
border and the beginning of the text? I'm looking for something shorter
and more elegant than

\newlength{\MyLen}
\setlength{\MyLen}{1in}
\addtolength{\MyLen}{\hoffset}
\addtolength{\Mylen}{\oddsidemargin}

The code above could be used on ODD pages to get the INNER distance.

I wonder if there are  native commands, say  \innerdistance and
\outerdistance, that work on even and odd pages.
