TUG now using PayPal for payment processing

As of the beginning of 2022, TUG has switched to using PayPal for payment processing by default. You may notice that our forms (membership, donations, etc.) have been simplified, and after submitting you are redirected to PayPal to collect payment and contact information.

If you prefer not to use PayPal, or it is not working for you, you can use our alternate membership form to join or renew.

A PayPal account is not required, as PayPal provides an option (in the US and some other countries) “Pay with Credit or Debit” card (at the bottom of the page after redirection), or (in yet other countries) similarly via bank account.

Just so you know, we did not make this change lightly. There are several reasons for the switch:

• PayPal offers more flexibility in payments.
• It is faster for PayPal to automatically handle the charges instead of it being done manually by the TUG office.
• Credit card fraud is a significant problem, and PayPal is able to prevent most of it from getting through, something we cannot do on our own.
• PayPal charges us, as a nonprofit organization, lower fees than are available elsewhere, so some money is saved.
• Finally, for those who already use PayPal (a not inconsiderable percentage of our members), it avoids having to give financial information separately to TUG.
