I find this surprising, and have to suspect compiler bugs.
xz-5.0.5 has been out since June 2013, used all over, and I have seen no
other reports of problems about it.  Not that I would have, necessarily.

Anyway, theories don't matter.  Can you please report one of the
failures to Lasse (lasse dot collin at tukaani dot org) and cc me?
Although if it's not reproducible on anything he has access to, I can't
imagine what he'll be able to do.  But at least he'll know if it's known
to be a problem.
