With a bit of searching, one finds this page.

   http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/

The pop-up there claims to have a version for MacOS Intel 10.5.8 .
Probably won't work on PPC, but he could give it a try.
It is Reader v.10.1.4, available for OSs up to 10.8.

Reader 8 and Reader 9 are no longer supported at Adobe.
I have versions of Reader and Pro all the way back to v6,
which run under MacOS 10.6.8.

Reader 11 is available for 10.6 and later
Reader DC is for 10.9 and later

Well, this plugin is a very good thing, in my experience,
supporting a lot of the things that I've mentioned earlier;
e.g. file attachments, annotations, JavaScript actions, etc.
In what way do you find it deficient?

What kind of "other stuff"?
Other plug-ins to Safari ???
Where is the incompatibility?
