Maybe it's a stupid remark of mine, but people often use Greek lowercase
letters in text, for things such as beta-test, a lambda user, make an epsilon
amount of effort etc. etc. In these cases it certainly looks nicer if these
characters are in the same style as the text (eventually non italicized).
Theoretically the right solution wuld be to use \encoding{greek}\selectfont
and to switch to the Greek variant of the current font, but this is perhaps
too much machinery for just one character. Have you thought of including
cmr-like Greek letters somewhere?
