Strategies for including graphics in LaTeX documents
Dr. Klaus Höppner
Including external graphics in LaTeX documents is an often needed task.
Though there is a standard interface for graphics inclusion since the
invention of LaTeX2e, it often causes questions from users because
- the supported graphics formats depend on the backend and
- the selection of the right format depends on the graphic's type.
This talk will
- give an overview of graphics formats (vector drawings, bitmaps with or
without compression), their advantages and disadvantages,
- introduce LaTeX's standard graphics package,
- present the supported formats for different backends (pdflatex and
latex with dvips backend),
- give a short overview of some conversion tools,
- show some supporting packages.
