i've discussed mtpro with spivak: he asserts that it will only work on a
system that supports virtual fonts. i've not examined the fonts in
detail, myself, but walter schmidt has and he seems satisfied with
spivak's assertion.

unfortunately, y&y tex doesn't support virtual fonts (berthold horn has
always been rather scornful of the very idea), so without _some_ sort
of development, you can't hope to use mtpro with y&y tex. sadly y&y
isn't being developed nowadays.

to use mtpro, therefore you've got to switch to _some_ other tex system.
it doesn't have to be pctex (even though -- afaik -- pti has exclusive
rights, now, to distribute the fonts). i actually have a
(complimentary) copy of mtpro, and i'm using it with tetex, but i think
you have to mention that you're not using pctex when you buy the fonts.
