This question has turned up a few times in the past half year:

George Monahan Mon, 28 Jul 2003
Sue (LMS journals) Fri, 26 Sep 2003
Neil (first time) Sat, 15 Nov 2003

If you've kept your back copies of techsupport mail, you can read the
suggestions and follow-ups. The three main messages of interest and
help seem to be these:

1. From Murray Eisenberg Sep 15, 03

At least for ATM Deluxe, I believe the message means trouble:
ATMREG.ATM is the file that contains the information about what fonts
have been installed -- and which under the direct control of ATM
(i.e., in the ATM Fonts subdirectory of Windows' Fonts directory) --
and in what sets. It belongs in your Windows (or WINNT, etc.)
directory and is created as part of the installation and/or
configuration of ATM Deluxe.

2. From Larry Tseng Tue, 16 Sep 2003

Just to add my 2 cents to the mix -

1. We've not had any real problems using ATM 4.1 Lite in our shop on
our WinNT and WinXP machines. (This doesn't mean that you won't, of
course. ;-)

2. For 4.1 Lite, the installed font information resides in Atmreg.atm
located either in the Windows folder (for XP) or WinNt folder (for
NT).

3. From Herb Gintis Fri, 26 Sep 2003 (two messages)

a. I had this problem a couple of months ago, and I solved it by
reinstalling Y &Y TeX. I have no idea why it worked. I tried every
other trick suggested to me. Reinstalling took about 15 minutes.

b. I saved a copy of dviwindo.ini as dviwindo.bak, and then copied it
back after the installation. I can't remember doing anything else.
   ...
Not at all. My system got corrupted somehow. Of course, I'm not
sure this will work for you, since my problem did not relate to
   newly installed fonts.

=====

So it would seem the first thing to try is just re-do the
installation. I'd be inclined to start from the very top, and re-do
the font installation and then re-do Y&YTeX.

==========================

Perhaps others on this list have additional comments, experiences, and
explanations since the above messages were posted.

This ATMREG.ATM problem does sound like a potential FAQ, so maybe we
should try to gather as much info as we can and do up a draft A to the
(FA)Q ;-)
