It ought to be possible to preload the fonts at a larger size (which
will affects all lines drawn by Xy-pic), as described in section 1.3
of the reference manual.
However, the code that implements this seems to be broken in 3.7:
| \message{fonts;}
| \xydef@\xyfont@#1{\ifx#1\undefined \DN@{\global\font#1}\expandafter\next@
| \else \xywarning@{Using previously loaded \string#1\space font}\fi}
| \xyfont@\xydashfont=xydash10
etc... so if, say, \xydashfont is already loaded,
"\xyfont@\xydashfont" will expand to commands that emit a warning,
after which TeX will attempt to *typeset* the text "=xydash10", with
probably undesirable effects.
